Taxiway pavement inspections using airsight drone
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)
Within its pavement maintenance programme, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) used airsight services for the drone-based inspection of a 1.6 km taxiway.
Instead of using conventional methods i.e. walking the runway, airsight drone was capable of to conduct the inspection flight in only 2 hours (in total, 6 flights of 10 minutes each) and to collect the images required for detailed off-site analysis. All flights were performed in coordination with air traffic control, in approximately 25 m high over a 45 m wide strip, to include also the runway shoulders and associated lighting equipment.
The 72 000 square meters of concrete and asphalt pavement could be analysed on the desktop using dedicated software, resulting in a detailed documentation of all identified distresses delivered to the client.
