Assessment of the conformity and efficiency of unpaved shoulders
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER)
In connection with submission of the plan revision application made by Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) for the official approval by the authorities (Brandenburg State Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Planning – MIL), airsight and its partner ROLAB were commissioned to assess the airport’s taxiway shoulders and graded portions.
Within this study, the dimension and inclination of the taxiways as well as their bearing capacities and stability (including shoulders) were validated to ensure the safe roll over of aircraft, rescue and fire fighting services vehicles, and to protect jet blast / engine ingestion. The investigation and analyses were based on the currently applicable requirements of ICAO and contractual requirements (construction material mixes and layers), and the results documented for the authorities in forms of thematic reports.
