Aerodrome Certification Support according to EASA
Luxembourg Airport
Luxembourg Airport achieved in December 2017 its certification in accordance to the new European standards, developed by EASA.
This is a significant achievement, notably in terms of aerodrome safety, resulting from 4 years of intensive collaboration between the stakeholders, i.e. the airport operator (lux-Airport), the local ANSP (ANA), the competent authority (DAC) and other airport users. In total, more than 1000 airside elements had to be inspected, and non-compliances resolved or managed using instruments foreseen by EASA for this purpose.
lux-Airport relied in the expertise and support of airsight consultants in numerous task during this large and complex project, including: local project management, gap-analysis and on-site audits, technical inspections using drones, development of procedures and associated documentation, redesign of airside infrastructure, as well as the conduction of safety assessments and the organization of training for responsible personnel in relevant topics (e.g. SMS, auditing etc.).
According to the airport operator in a <link https: mddi.gouvernement.lu fr external-link-new-window receives aerodrome>press release, the certification process “has helped to clarify the role and responsibility each actor has at Luxembourg Airport, and has clearly described who does what, how and when at the airport”. François Bausch, Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, further stated that "the aerodrome certificate to lux-Airport is the result of the hard work and excellent cooperation of a large number of people. Specialists, operators and organizations acting in and around the airport worked together on a laborious process with one common goal: improving the safety. This is most likely the biggest achievement of the certification and it will emphasize our one and only airport a perfect connectivity to the world".
Since the introduction of ICAO certification requirements (ICAO Doc 9774) – and later EASA requirements (Commission Regulation – EU – No 139/2014), airsight served with its large and diversified team of experts many airport operators as a “full-service provider” in their certification activities.
